A hip scarf should be an essential part of your fashion accessories so that even the drabbest of outfits ends up looking chic and elegant once you wear the scarf. However, do remember to use a thick variety of thread compared to the standard one. Beads help to enhance the color of your scarf especially if it is self-colored. If you are decorating your scarf with beads and sequins, it is important to buy a scarf or fabric that is strong enough to take all the sewing. Invariably, chiffon and polyester mixes work very well. Do remember, that delicate fabrics will tear and develop holes as you sew.
A hip scarf can either be triangular or rectangular in shape. A triangular scarf should not be too deep as the ends should not hang around your knees once you tie them. The tip of the triangle point should hang below your derriere and the top edge should be foldable. A rectangular hip scarf sits flat against the hips and does not fold over the top edge. This type of scarf should be long enough to allow you to tie a double knot.
